Many job platforms report on their own job posting figures, but we decided to investigate the demand for tech roles based on aggregated data across multiple job platforms in the US.
The below graph highlights the general trend of an increasing demand for tech talent in the US over the past five years.

Within five years the demand for tech talent has seen a 2.3X overall growth. Not surprising if you look at the current speed of scaling of tech companies. Demand for tech talent has been growing at 26% per year on average since 2016, until the pandemic hit.

While it may look like the demand for tech talent has been decreasing in 2020 due to the pandemic, the tech industry has been incredibly resilient when compared to the rest of the economy.

If you look more closely, there has actually been a continued growth of demand for tech jobs relative to the overall demand. Tech job postings have grown by 24% per year on average over the past five years vs. 4% for all jobs.
Given recent acceleration in tech talent demand and resilience of tech jobs to the crisis, we can expect an ever-increasing demand in the upcoming years.
